With training you get compliance, with coaching you get commitment. One skill that all great leaders have is the ability to coach. Whether it is sales, customer service or communication, coaching is a necessary skill to help people in their organization to maximize the potential of their human capital.
VALUES Coaching© is unique in that it not only provides a systematic process for coaching but also an ethical communication model that is easy to follow and implement. Most people do not coach for these reasons:
No will, in that the work culture does not teach nor encourage coaching. Often a dictatorial leadership style precludes people from helping others grow.
No feel, because leaders and managers feel that they are unworthy to coach either because of their level of experience or their trust level is low.
No skill, because the individual does not know how to coach. They lack the skills or process that makes it comfortable for them to coach.
VALUES Coaching© provides both the process and the impetus for helping people become great coaches. Whether it is a formal coaching session or taking advantage of a coaching moment, major organizations have used this program to provide the skills and processes that can implemented to effectively coach people to meet their greatest potential.
After completing this course, the participant will be able to:
- Understand what motivates people
- Look for and recognize coaching opportunities
- Develop and use a formal coaching process
- Use a problem solving formula and an ethical decision making process to help people solve problems
- Apply a proven coaching and ethical communication model
- Learn how to formulate questions to help individuals uncover their issues and develop a plan to address those issues
- Value those with whom they interact by helping them create a plan and be accountable to that plan for improvement
- Develop skills that will help them mentor, monitor, motivate, and manage those they coach
- Identify their ethical perspective and that of others
Ethical communication is the basis for VALUES Coaching©. To determine what trust or communication issues may hamper managers and leaders from being effective coaches, it is suggested that each person in the department first complete an Ethical Choices in the Workplace© assessment and a 360° evaluation. This will immediately identify any trust or ethical communication issues and offer insights into how those problems may be addressed.
