TWI has a strong commitment to promoting ethics in the educational community. Besides our Annual High School Ethics Essay Contest, TWI funds Arizona’s Summer Institute for Teachers as an outreach to teachers of middle school and high school students. People of all ages are confronted with ethical challenges. TWI is working to help provide opportunities and tools for teachers to encourage their students to become better ethical decision makers.
Building the Ethical Self: The Summer Institute for Teachers is offered each summer in North Scottsdale for secondary teachers throughout Arizona. The mission of the Institute is to help teachers build ethics into their everyday curriculum, teaching practice, and classroom life. The workshop, offered in a retreat setting, is an opportunity for teachers to learn more about ethics in the classroom and to talk with colleagues from around the state about common issues and concerns in teaching ethics. The Institute (sponsored by TWI, Foothills Academy, and the Arizona State University Mary Lou Fulton College of Education) is an intensive two-day program that provides an honorarium and continuing education credit for participating teachers.
