Institute for Ethics in Education

TWI has a strong commitment to promoting ethics in the educational community as demonstrated bu our funding of Arizona’s Institute for Ethics in Education (IEIE), formerly the Summer Institute for Teachers, as an outreach to teachers of middle school and high school students. People of all ages are confronted with ethical challenges. TWI is working to help provide opportunities and tools for teachers to encourage their students to become better ethical decision makers.

The mission of the IEIE is to help teachers build ethics into their everyday curriculum, teaching practice, and classroom life.  The program, "Building the Ethical Self," is offered to teachers throughout Arizona.  The workshop, offered in a retreat setting, is an opportunity for teachers to learn more about ethics in the classroom and to talk with colleagues from around the state about common issues and concerns in teaching ethics. The Institute's programs (sponsored by TWI,
Foothills Academy, and the Arizona State University College of Teacher Education and Leadership) is an intensive two-day program that provides an honorarium and continuing education credit for participating teachers.

Over 50 teachers particpated in the 2008 Summer Institute.  All found the curriculum and the shared insights of the participants rewarding and useful.  The next program will be in February 1010 in Scottsdale, AZ.
