David O. Braaten, Ph.D.
President and CEO

Dr. Braaten comes to TWI from a career in higher education where he was a professor and business college dean. He has consulted and trained in the areas of organizational transformation and multicultural workplace issues. With these experiences, and a background as a marriage and family therapist, he brings a multifaceted understanding of the importance of ethics as the foundation to building personal relationships. He shares with the TWI founders a deep appreciation and commitment to building ethics in community.

James D. Young
Vice President, Education and Development

James Young joined the TWI management staff in 2007. He is a writer, speaker and training course developer. He provides a wealth of experience in support of TWI's commitment to leadership development and business integrity.

  • Over 25 years experience in training and development, including speaking and consulting internationally with such organizations as IBM, Abott Labs, AT&T, as well as many city, state, county and federal government intities.
  • International conference keynote speaker and presenter.
  • 20 years developing and writing training programs for major international corporations.
  • Successfully managed two international training companies. He also served as Training Manager for a major insurance company.
  • Worked and trained for organizations such as Integrity Systems and  Franklin Covey in addition to successfully running his own training and consulting firm.
  • Author of Communicating with V.A.L.U.E.S.

Kristy Carlston
Management Associate

Ms. Carlston joined TWI in 2004 and is responsible for financial management and administrative support. She was subsequently elected to serve as TWI Corporate Secretary.

  • 20 years of policy writing and information analysis in support of Aid to Families with Dependent Children (AFDC), Job Opportunities and Basic Skills (JOBS), and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) for the Utah Department of Human Services
  • Two years as Eligibility Team Supervisor for AFDC at the Utah Department of Workforce Services
  • Trainer in computer software applications

Linda M. Williams, Ph.D.

Cofounders, The Williams Institute

Dr. Linda M. Williams served as the first President and CEO of TWI for 14 years until 2007 when she relinquished that role to focus on research and education in support of TWI. Her unique combination of management and people skills reflecting her education, professional experience, and commitment to ethics in community was instrumental in establishing TWI as a recognized leader in providing ethics resources and management services.

Jim Williams served as Chair of the TWI Board of Directors until stepping down from that position in 2006. In addition, he fulfilled the responsibilities of Vice President of Sales and Marketing until 2007 when these responsibilities were assumed by the Vice President for Education and Development. Mr. Williams' extensive executive management background contributed valuable expertise in setting up the organizational structure to support the TWI vision.

  • 36 years in government acquisition, ending in his retirement as Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Acquisition Management
  • 4 years providing corporate and government executive leadership in international operations for Northrop Corporation
  • 3 years managing academic programs for career development, including programs for at-risk community college students
